4-Alarm Fire Destroys 35 School Buses

It's a quiet Sunday afternoon when all of sudden, BOOM! Loud explosions and smoke rising into the sky. This is what happened this past Sunday, October 2nd in Dousman Wisconsin.

Officials battled a large 4-Alarm fire at the Dousman Transportation Company in Merton, Wisconsin. The big question here is how did this fire start? Officials with the Waukesha County Sheriffs department say it is being considered a crime scene.

Once the fire started, it quickly spread from bus to bus, causing large explosions from the diesel gas inside. This caused an even larger fire to erupt with each blast. It is said that 30 buses were on fire, and 35 buses and the bus barn were destroyed in the process.

On Monday, officials from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms(ATF) were on the scene along with Waukesha County Sheriff's Department investigators-- and a clean up crew.
According to North Shore Environmental Construction, it is estimated that 200-400 gallons of diesel from the buses may have contaminated the surrounding soils.

The Dousman Transportation Company serves dozens of schools. Luckily the company had enough buses at a different location to transport children to school on Monday.
